We always feel so honored when we get referrals from our clients. 80% of our business comes from previous clients which we appreciate so much!
This beautiful family just moved into a newer, bigger home in North Richland Hills. I met with when the previous owners were still in the home. The below photo is what it looked like.
BEFORE
They were feeling like it felt dark and weren't sure how to make it feel lighter and brighter. The first thing I suggested was that we paint, getting rid of the “old world” glaze on the walls.
I identified their design style as a marriage between traditional and contemporary and started working on a design plan.
We got busy creating a space for them that would feel comfortable, cheery, sophisticated and family friendly as well.
I chose a more contemporary sofa because it took up less space. Still very comfortable but not as bulky. We added soft velvet pillows to the sofa that go beautifully with the vintage rug that lightened up the entire room.
A swivel chair is never a bad decision, especially since it can be turned around so you can converse with those cooking in the kitchen.
The client had this buffet in their old dining room but it didn’t fit in their new one. I decided to incorporate it into the design to keep things within their budget because that is always a priority for me. Don’t you love the lamps?
I also placed these three glass vases inbetween the lamps and added some branchy florals that look really pretty with the fireplace color.
The artwork has that touch of gold that works beautifully with the wood pieces I placed in the space.
The rich navy sheep skins on each sofa, really add the color we needed!
I placed a pottery collection on a mirrored tray for some fun “collected interest” and it was a big hit. The marble tic tac toe will be used by all the kids that hang out in the room. In just about every one of my designs I bring in some kind of natural element, this time it was a unique curved wood carving.
The turquoise pillow with the taped trim is to die for! We also added these wood nesting tables that tuck under the sofa, I know they will be used frequently for drinks and snacks, or even remotes, phones and such.
Why not have a coffee table that has a fun design element underneath it. This is where having a designer is so helpful. We know how to mix patterns and shapes so that it isn’t overdone. See how the pillow on the sofa and the coffee table shape compliment each other? Yes, I wake up in the night and think about these details. The base of the coffee table also ties in the buffet behind the sofa. Nothing must stand alone, there needs to be unity.
This coffee table also adds a casual feeling to this sophisticated room which is definitely something the client wanted. It makes you feel like you can put your feet up without anybody looking at you with disapproval.
I purchased the mirror but felt it needed some embellishment. I added the gold leaf to make it pop and it made it come alive and compliments the stone!
The wood vases are from the Philippines and are paired with some whimsical florals that make the room feel playful.
This rug though??? Wowza!
The sideboard features a chic faux Shagreen finish with a metal base. Every family room needs storage too, this sideboard has plenty. What I loved about this one was that it was open underneath, which always makes the furniture feel like it is floating in the room, tricking the eye and making the room feel more spacious.
Drumroll please…..

Don’t you love the transformation. The mountain artwork above the TV really made the room complete. Pairing the teak wood pieces next to them made the scale work and also takes away from the black TV in the middle of the room. Yes, we kept the fan because we live in Texas and a fan is a must in the summer (even though I’m not a fan, lol)
The reveal with the entire family was so much fun and they were completely shocked and surprised with the transformation.
The kiddos were screaming with excitement which made it a blast!
