It is always such a joy to me when a client that I've worked with before calls me again!
The husband had a terrible accident a few years back and now has a titanium back. He spent a year in the hospital and they almost lost him several times. They gained a new perspective on life and home and have downsized to a one story home since he cannot go up stairs anymore. This is where I come in! They hired me to come in for the day and decorate their new home "using what they have."
BEFORE ENTRY
We came in and used the furniture and accessories they had in a fresh new way. We shopped throughout their house, stole things from other rooms and repurposed and painted items. We loved using family photos and artwork that her mom painted and purposely used furniture that has memories to them. It was fun to see the transformation and their reaction!
AFTER ENTRY
On the wall opposite the console table, we hung this old window we found in their garage.
BEFORE OFFICE SPACE
The client wanted this space to be used for her office but also an overflow for when family visits over the holidays.
AFTER OFFICE SPACE
They had the rug, we just paired it with an existing coffee table and couch. We moved the wood bench from the entry because it was way too wide for that space. We stole pillows from one of the rooms and it now looks comfy!
This cute little chair makes an awesome office chair for someone that doesn't use their office daily.
I love this painting that her mom did! The colors worked beautifully in her office space. We layered other pictures and meaningful items on her desk space.
I didn't get before photos of the dining room but we hung a new chandelier (they brought it from their old house) and we edited the bakers rack so it wasn't so cluttered.
The client recently lost her mom so she had a lot of accessories and artwork she wanted us to incorporate.
We created this cute little space underneath one of the windows in the family room. She had this desk in the garage and we needed to fill the space, so we placed it here and it looks very charming. Paired with another one of their cute little chairs and it looks so inviting. The client is in a new neighborhood so right now you can see the new construction all round them. They have ordered plantation shutters and draperies for privacy.
Her mom's art was placed throughout the home and I loved how colorful it made each room.
We set up a coffee bar in her kitchen, using an oil painting her mother did, grouped with her favorite silver tray. These details are the things that make a house feel like home.
In the master bedroom, we used the colorful portraits of all her kids! Ruthie Tip: The master bedroom is a great place for family photos. You get to enjoy them daily! We added a large painting which is one of their favorites from one of their trips! I also found the desk in the garage because they didn't think they had room for it. I think it makes a great bedside table, don't you? The round mirror above the bed softens the space.
I suggested that they add new lamps, a rug and two ottomans underneath the desk to finish it up on a budget. Ruthie Tip: Your side tables don't need to match. It is best if they are the same height, but they don't have to be exactly the same. I prefer them to be different because it makes it more interesting.
Rug, bedside lamps and two ottomans would be my suggestions below.
I loved the one day install! It really got my creative juices going and allowed me to be creative on the spot! Super fun!
The client had a grandchildren bedroom! We had so much fun playing with her collection of barbies. Of course, they are up high so they can look and not touch!
After we completed the one day install, we had the reveal and I went through each room with her and told her what she needs to buy now to complete the house.
I hope this post inspires you to be creative in your home with what you have!
