Halloween Flashback is so bittersweet

So fun to go back and look at dress up times over the years in our family.
Funny thing is that the girls have always LOVED to dress up whether it was Halloween or not.  Our family loves to laugh and act crazy and dress up has always been a big part of our fun.

They had a dress up box and we collected costumes, wigs, etc. for them to add to their collection.  Fun to hit the sales after Halloween was over.  When the cousins would come over, dressing up and making videos of their crazy acts was one of the most favorite things for them to do!

I think that kids pretending and dressing up like a character is one of the best things they can do to boost their creativity.  We always had fun together coming up with ideas.  We had WAY more fun making the costume (and I don't sew) than buying it.  A glue gun and hand sewing was good enough for a one night event.

Life is too short not to be silly.

They even  made Ava costumes made from my fabric scraps!  This is the year they got a sewing machine and had fun making outfits for the dog.

My  youngest had to be a Peacock one year and that she was!  Goodwill to the rescue.  Any outfit can be cut down to fit.

One year my husband had a motorcycle accident and we were totally engrossed in caring for him.  However, that didn't stop the girls from coming up with their own costumes.  She collected labels and made herself into trash.  So fun and creative and she was so proud.

My fabric remnant box was a constant go to for the girls.   Who needs to buy a leopard headband when you can  make one.

In character....

Thrift stores are the best place for inspiration and cheap fun.

Such cuties!  This year my girls were grandma and grandpa and boy did they do a good impersonation of them.

Grannie seemed to be the go to and they loved acting out old age.  She was pretty good at it too.

They painted their own faces this year.

Such sweetness!

This year they were Indians but just for "goblin" day at school.  Tonight we won't be with them walking the neighborhood with their cute little costumes because they want to be with their friends having fun instead.  It seems that I would feel sad about that but somehow I don't.

I've been there through the fun times of Halloween over the years and don't have any regrets.  It was a blast while it lasted.

Tonight we will answer the door to little princesses, clowns and ninja's and remember the fun we had with our kiddo's during that season of our lives.

Bittersweet!

Drapery finial and a pumpkin

I've NEVER done two blog posts in one day!!! However, I just couldn't contain myself after I finished this project.

I've had these drapery finials for about 2 years now waiting for something fun to do with them.  I had a brain storm and thought they might look fabulous on a white pumpkin.

Isn't she adorable?  I'm planning some of the décor for a ladies brunch in November and started experimenting.  I didn't use a real pumpkin this time but you totally could.  It would be messier but if you are game, go for it.

You could use all kinds of fun things for the top of the pumpkin.  Just google drapery knobs or drapery finials and you will see a ton of ideas.

I'd love to see some of the tiny pumpkins with cabinet knobs!

Hope I've inspired you!

Leopard and burlap wreath.

Today I finally got to revamping a wreath for a client.  She brought it to me in a sad state.  It needed to be enhanced desperately!  I wanted to transform it from "cute" to "elegant"

BEFORE

Here it is when it arrived at my house, minus a few large pumpkins that I thought made it look too fussy.

I added some orange berries and a few other florals.

I also added some bark because that makes a wreath look so much more relaxed. I kept the gorgeous orange leaves.

Added a gourd and 2 metallic pumpkins along with a orange bow.

I layered the burlap with the leopard ribbon to make it more substantial.  Anytime you layer textures it looks so beautiful.  Layering is the trick to any good design.

Small pops of white florals make the wreath come together.

I hung it on my door, I may have to steal it!  If you look closely, you can see my favorite wicker pumpkin on top of my column.

Here it is AFTER!

BEFORE AND AFTER

Oops, it has moved from the front door to my living room door.  It looks beautiful with my tapestry from India.

Watch out Lisa, it may not be yours after all!

I'm almost at the end of my journey of being off my feet for 2 weeks.  Whew, this has not been easy.  It's time like today where I've snuck up and hobbled into my work area to produce something beautiful.  Looking forward to getting out and about next week!  I've almost forgotten how to drive.  I have become incredibly good at working on my laptop creating design plans.  It has forced me to be extra productive and for that I'm thankful!

Blessings,

Glorious new kitchen

Somehow I'm super blessed with amazing clients.  Sometimes I am so overwhelmed by the gift God gives me each time I finish with a client. I know that the crew that works along side me feels the same way! Being able to work with such genuine people is such a pleasure and I don't take it for granted, it's such a tremendous blessing!

Don't you love this before and after?

My client really wanted new cabinets and that's what she got!  New floors were put in and I'm extremely jealous of this floor!  It's stunning!  Notice that we did a black granite island to make the island stand out a little more than the rest of the countertops.  New cabinet hardware and it really looks sharp now.

Works beautifully with the cabinets and wall color.

We had her table painted this lovely peacock blue and used the existing chairs she already had.  This table is now the showpiece in this kitchen.

I've had a great weekend with my girls but now I've got to put my feet up!  I'm recovering well after my foot surgery but I'm realizing how much I do and how much I count on two healthy feet!
