2012 Design Trends for your Home

(Traditional Home)
There is always buzz at the beginning of a new year as to what the trends will be for that year. I've been hearing 5 that seem to be pretty consistent in the design world.  Kimberly Schlegel Whitman, editor-at-large for Southern Living magazine confirmed them today on the radio.
(Lifestyle Expert - 103.7 FM)
I thought I'd give you some images to go along with these trends.  The images I've chosen are what I envision those trends to look like.  They are examples on how I plan on incorporating these trends throughout the year as I decorate homes.
Hope the visuals and examples help you as you think about incorporating some of these into your home this year.

Remember, be careful not to go too "trendy."  Add a pillow, a lamp or a rug, something that can be changed easily.  Stay classic in your design but add a few things that go along with the trends to add some interest and personality.
NO. 1
"Tangerine Tango" by Pantone - The color of the year!
This makes me happy because It's one of my favorite colors.  I have splashes of it all over my home.
Tangerine Tango, a spirited reddish orange, continues to provide the energy boost we need to recharge and move forward.
It's a bold color and is beautiful as an accent color for your upholstery selections, dishes,
accessories, wall color, lampshades, throws and much, much more.
I'm crazy in love with these teacups!

Fun light fixtures and mix and match chairs.
(The Nate Berkus Show)
Perfect touch at the end of a bed with pillows or with fresh florals.

(World Market)
Love this throw pillow.

This chair makes the room come alive!
Subtly including the color on a bookshelf is a great way to be in the trend without going overboard.
(designpages.blogspot.com)
It's beautiful with blue as the background!

For those that are really conservative about trends, how about incorporating a large oversized ottoman with the color "Tangerine Tango" within the pattern?
I finished this room last year with "Tangerine Tango" as the accent color.

Pillows and florals once again.

NO. 2
GOING PREPPY - A clean, crisp look.
(Pinterest)
Gotta love houndstooth patterns.
(Dreamdesignlive.com)
A preppy wall design as a backdrop.

Love a great plaid.  You could find an old flannel shirt and make it into a pillow.
This look is one of my favorite ways to dress.
(Pinterest)
Beautiful textures that can be incorporated into a room.  Another one of my favorite looks.  Furs, leathers, animal print, sweater, vintage style  and wicker.
(Elle Decor)
So fresh and clean.  Appeals to men and woman.
(Ralph Lauren Home)
Wonderful layering of plaids and leather.
NO. 3
MASCULINE WEAR INSPIRED.
Every girl loves a sharp dressed man.  Well, it carries over into a sharp dressed room!

(remodelista.com)
You are going to see lots of furniture looking like men's clothing.  Very sharp!
(Ralph Lauren Home)
So warm and comfortable.  Lots of plaids, warm tones, animal prints, leathers and books.
(habituallychic.blogspot.com)
Dark tones with leather, metal, architectural elements and colored artwork.

Leather, grasscloth, black tones and artifacts.  Love the crystal lamp to soften the look.

Love this chair upholstery made from a mens flannel shirt - fabulous look.
NO. 4
CALM COLORS
Blues and Greys
The seascape look
(Houzz.com)
Notice that it's not all themed in seashells.  It's just touches of it here and there to add interest.
(Tobi Fairley Home)
Small touches here too but the ice blue really adds a calming feel to this master retreat.
(Coastal Living)
Grey is a restful color and makes me want to turn down the sheets and sleep.
(Anna Baskin Lattimore Design)
Blue walls with white furniture and seashell motif.
(Concreteanddust.tumblr.com)
Light blue walls look fresh and happy.
(nominimalisthere.blogspot.com)
Seashell mirror and sink.  The mirrored vanity pulls it together and makes it glamorous instead of too country.
Painting the back of bookshelves adds a touch of the seaside.  Notice how beautiful white accessories look against the blue.
A collection of blue bases adds a calm yet vibrant feel. The black chairs really draw your eye in and complete the look.
Beautiful accessories on a console table with touches of the sea.
Driftwood and glassware speaks volumes in this vignette.  Makes a space feel "alive"
NO. 5
ENERGIZING COLORS
Splashes of red, yellows and other vibrant colors.
Country Living
Red and yellow have always been a great marriage.  Notice how they painted the walls and the bookshelves the same color.  Great way to add drama.
(DC Design House)
So vibrant and beautiful.  Painting the inside of a cabinet is a great way to add color to a room.
(Thedesignfile.net)
A painted chest of drawers can add a pop of color to your space immediately.
(Traditional Home)
Monochromatic room with vibrant yellow artwork is spectacular in this room.
What a happy place with an eclectic mix of styles.
(Traditional Home)
Draperies is a great way to add a punch of color to your room as well.

Painted Trim and Crown Molding

Looking for some quick changes this year for your home?
Think about changing your trim color instead of your wall color.
It can swing a room into a totally different mood without having to paint an entire room.
Just look at how painting this trim a soft blue makes this room so interesting and fun.  Of course, it can look "cheap" if you don't put the right furniture into the room to make it all come together.  This chair and ottoman along with the rug, light fixtures, dresser and painted bookshelf makes it look very sharp and pulled together.
The eyebrow in the room!
All white walls in this room but the painted molding adds character and class.
Black painted molding really makes a room look dressed up and glamorous.
All white walls and again, the trim painted this putty color adds interest and warmth.
You can paint trim in a weekend and feel good about a finished project.  It can accentuate your architectural arches immediately.

2012 Fresh Looks For Your Home

I don't know about you, but after I've put all the Christmas decorations away, there is something in me that longs for fresh, simple and new!  The New Year makes me think of clean, fresh and renewed...a simple white slate!  I don't tend to gravitate towards totally white rooms because I believe that color adds life!  However, I do love rooms with splashes of white!
Here are some beautiful fresh rooms that will inspire you for the Fresh New Year!
ENJOY!
This bedroom is absolutely jaw dropping.
Furs, leathers, crystals, driftwood....fun combinations.
Black and white with a punch of gold.  I'd feel really special and important in this room.

This room looks so inviting to me.  The green velvet does the talking in this room.
A mirrored table always makes a statement, especially grouped with crystal lamps.

Totally white and fresh.

Perfect room for great conversation.  I love the way the accessories are placed on the bookshelves!
Warm and cozy.

Fresh and subtle wall color.

A touch of pink with white makes me feel refreshed.
Fresh fruit in a bowl is such an easy way to add color and freshness.
Neutral background with irresistible terra cotta pops of color.  Yum!
I could really be inspired in this room!  Curled up with a book and a cup of coffee.  Doesn't it look comfortable and relaxed?  Love the green chair up against all the white bookshelves.
Love the simplicity of this kitchen but does the woman cook?
Imagine this table all set for dinner in candle light.
Fun white pitcher collection.

I hope your New Year is off to a good start.  My brain is bubbling with new ideas and inspiration.  I can't wait to see what is around the corner in 2012!

Do one thing a day that scares you!

I'm excited to be spending time with close friends on New Years Eve that live close to home.
We are going to sit and chat and enjoy some wine and cheese.  We are making it easy too by ordering dinner from PF Changs, one of my favorites!
My favorite dishes from PF Changs are their lettuce wraps & Crispy Honey Chicken.
So heavenly!
If you haven't tried their melon, shrimp and toasted walnuts you are missing out.  It's to die for!
Time has flown by this year like it does every year, I'm sure you agree.
I'm not one for making New Years Resolutions but this year, my goal is to invest in my family and friends.  I want to be a more loving wife (love on my husband more and appreciate him daily), more patient mom (do things with them that interest them and listen to their dreams)  and a dedicated friend (stop to relish in the blessing of having friendships that encourage me and spend time with those friends)

Time ticks by....

This is SO SO true.  Every time I feel fearful and then actually do that one thing, it usually turns out to be a good thing.  It stretches me!
It scares me to think that time could go by and I haven't spent time with those that mean the most to me.  It scares me to think that I have teenage girls that need a mother to be their role model.  It scares me to think that my husband needs me to be his love and support.
It scares me because I don't want to fail them.  However,  I will do it with dedication knowing that it will make me have no regrets.  I want to live life to the fullest! It's scary to put expectations out there for yourself but rewarding when you see the fruit it brings to all those that you touch.
Hope your year starts off blessed and filled with new beginnings that bring you Joy.

HAPPY CHRISTMAS!
I woke up early this morning, couldn't sleep for some reason.   Probably the excitement of Christmas Day and what it holds.  Lots of thoughts running through my head as I contemplated the last week and the week ahead.
I decided to write down some of those thoughts that were going through my mind and wanted to share them with you!
