Estate Sale Treasure - $1.00

I love a good find! A treasure!
I found this oil painting (29w X 29h) at an estate sale for $1.00.
It spoke to me......It said "fall is around the corner"

It's now placed in my entry as a reminder that it will soon be cool.  Love the "sketchy" little cabin and the simplicity of the natural surrounding it sits in.  It looks cozy and I can almost smell the fireplace wood burning and the potato soup on the stove.

Thank you hubby for these fall flowers....given to me just because you know I LOVE the small things that touch my life.
Live beautifully today,
Ruthie

A good excuse to get "cooler" in Texas!

I went shopping today for some flowers for my dining room since we are having guests this week at the Staalsen Hotel
I've been running around everywhere to make sure we have all the necessities we need for entertaining and serving great food!
I love an excuse to buy flowers for the house and I did just that!
Aren't these hydrangea's beautiful?  The soft color blue in this grouping of flowers is perfect for the holiday weekend don't you think?  I'd love to find a few red roses to pop in there with this arrangement to make it really festive for 4th of July weekend.
I've been getting my guest room ready.  I love all the colors in this room but as you all know, I love to shake it up a little.
I had this white, cream and turquoise comforter in another room but thought it would be a nice "summer" change for my guests this weekend.
I also added the mirror so we would get a nice reflection of the lamp on the bedside table.
The turquoise goes really nicely with the embroidered pillows and now I feel like it feels a little "cooler."  Anything to get things cooler in Texas!!  Those of you that live here know what I mean!
Clean towels are ready!
New soap in every bathroom!  I love to add river rocks to my guest bathroom sink.
Got the festive dish towels out!
Now all I need is chocolates on their pillows and we are set to go!
Well....let me rethink that...
they are family but we don't want them to be too comfortable, they may stay too long!
I think I'll skip on the chocolates.  Ha Ha.
One of my favorite things is to entertain so I love when my house is full of people and laughter.
Let the festivities begin.  I know...it's only Wednesday but we are starting a little early!  Party on....

Simple, classic and to the point

SIMPLE, CLASSIC AND TO THE POINT.
I'm a true believer in making things simple and classic.
It's amazing how you can make a room look so fabulous just by adding something simple like the two leather wing back chairs at the end of this table.  It's all about mixing it up!  If this dining room table didn't have these chairs it would still be pretty but the chairs add such texture and a touch of class.  It also makes the room feel a little more masculine.  I believe that a room with true "class" is one that has a touch of masculine added to it.

The above room has a gorgeous antique table.  Painting these antique chairs  a glossy white breaks up the "matchy matchy" look and adds an eclectic flair to this room.  Some would just freak out about painting antique furniture but it's okay! There is nothing wrong with mixing styles and bringing things up to date.  I also LOVE the antique bench!  The masculine flair in this room is the painting.  It speaks volumes and again adds such class and sophistication because of the warm colors.   It's all about the scale - see how the bench is the same height as the chairs, making this marriage work.  Not a lot of fuss in this room, just classic and a look that lasts year after year!  Simply gorgeous.
If this was my room I would have reupholstered the chairs in an animal print or maybe reupholster  just the bench.  Perfect addition to the space and it's a simple change up!!
Either one of these would work.   I like the warmth of the first one.
It's not everybody's style but I love an eclectic twist.  If you look into the living room you can see that the homeowner has plaid drapery fabric (gives a conservative/traditional feel to the room).  Adding this animal print would break it up and make the rooms feel much more interesting.  The tones of the fabric go with the painting so it all works together.
Which one is your favorite?
Remember you never want to "over decorate" with animal fabrics.  If you use this fabric, don't use it anywhere else or any other animal print.  You don't want to use too much of a good thing.  So often I go into homes where the animal print is WAY overdone.  Don't ruin a good thing by overdoing it!!
If you just CAN'T do the animal print then you could do this Tapestry Chenille.
I'd actually like to see this Tapestry fabric with the 1st fabric above.
Here they are together, pretty combination don't you think?
Your whole house doesn't have to be transformed all at once.  Make small simple changes by thinking  of little things that make a BIG difference.
Remember that I offer online consultations.  You can send me your pictures of the room that you need help with and I can give you advice, suggestions & tips to help you make your home
 SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL.

Rest and Relaxation

Every family needs rest and relaxation.  We love to camp as a family!  We will take our RV and camp right by the water somewhere peaceful.   This past weekend was one of those times.  There is something about being out in nature that makes you STOP EVERYTHING and enjoy!  No phones, no Internet (well we did find wifi) and no house chores to do!   I love being home but being away from home makes me turn my creative juices off a little so I can revamp and get refreshed.  I'm constantly decorating and creating in my head!
This is the view I looked at each morning while drinking my coffee!  The kids are getting ready to go out in the canoe to fish!
Does life get any better than this?  Cousin memories forever!
I caught up on some reading, chat time with my sister-in-law, time with my daddy and his wonderful wife!
It was awesome!
We are going to do more of this during the summer!  In Between decorating installs, camps, piano lessons, sewing classes, etc.
Life is good when you take time to be with family and RELAX a little.
I did decide that I'm going to have new curtains made for the RV!!!  Gotta do a little decorating.
CAMP ON!!!

Before & After Garden Treasures

In April I posted about some treasures that I'd found on the curb or in the trash.   Here are the treasures after they have been given some love and attention!
This wonderful Spanish chair with "blue" ugly wicker (gag) and this gorgeous leather hide seat was a find of the day!  I knew it had potential because I had just seen these pictures in a library book I was reading and really loved the look of the chairs around this dining room table.

I got all inspired by the photo and knew I could make my own rendition of the above chairs with a few paint layers and some wonderful gel stain.
All I need is one chair, that will do me fine!  Actually the rooms above are a little too "Ethnic" for my liking but I do like a touch of it my space.  I know it's because of my growing up and traveling all over the world, I tend to gravitate towards items that are culturally different.
Goodbye BABY BLUE!!
It now resides on my front porch and loves its new home!
Remember the columns that my friend gave me for my birthday?
They now reside in my front garden, leaning on my pot that had a crack in it so I decided to lay it on its side with the crack on the bottom.  Planted sweet potato vine in it and now I get to enjoy this grouping from my kitchen window while I eat my breakfast each morning.
Remember this wrought iron stand that I found on the curb?  I found a cute bird that looked oh so cheery and now she greets me as I drive into my driveway each day!  The bird cost me $3.00 because she had a hole in the bottom....perfect for me! LOVE IT!  The kids have named her lily!
Now off to do some weeding in that garden I've been talking about!
Where is the Mother's Day" Garden Elf?
